From a mining boom to a modern operating property
Rawhide developed during one of Nevada's early twentieth-century mining booms. The town's rise was rapid, but a major fire and changing economic conditions reshaped the district. Mining continued in different forms over the decades, and modern exploration brought a new phase of development.

A district and town take shape
The district was formally organized in 1907, and the town of Rawhide grew rapidly during Nevada's early twentieth-century mining boom.
031908
Boom year and major fire
Rawhide reached its peak around 1908. In September, a major fire damaged much of the commercial district. The town declined substantially afterward.
041910s-1960s
Changing forms of mining
After the boom, placer mining became increasingly important. The district later supported other forms of mining, including scheelite production and smaller-scale postwar activity.
05Early 1980s
Modern exploration
A new period of mineral exploration began in the early 1980s. That work led to modern open-pit development and heap-leach processing at the property.

Walker Lane Mining
Walker Lane Mining acquired the property, funded the required reclamation bonding, and resumed operations.
